How I got started designing templates for eBay:

One of my best friends was listing her items on eBay one day, and wanted me to take a look at them. She was really proud of the work she had done to list them. I went to take a look.

“Wow!" I said. "These look really nice!"

Being a graphic designer, building websites, and designing just about everything under the sun, I have a feel for what works.

“I didn't realize you could design!" I said.

She didn't, she explained. She had bought a subscription to a service that provides template design around 4 years earlier, and had forgotten that she had it. That day, she went to their website and realized that she had been charged for the service, every month, for 4 years! She decided she better start using the service she has paid for.

“It's only $8 a month," she continues, “I barely notice something like that on my card."

WHAT?!

I was flabbergasted. Do the math. 8 x 12 x 4 = $384

Now times that by clients. Say they have 600 clients. That's $230,400 for four years!

 

“Are there a lot of these kinds of services?”

Intrigued by this arena of profits, I decided to check out templates sold on a singular basis on eBay. There are many out there. Some nice, some extravagant, some not-so-nice, and some that are really worth the asking price.

Why had I not known about this wonderful opportunity?
Busy, I guess.

But most likely because I assume everyone knows what I know about designing, html, etc. I am oblivious to the fact that not everyone spends 24 hours thinking, creating, and breathing art. Not everyone has the time to figure out HTML.

Not everyone really cares; they just want the end product.
